An ethical and green approach was the constant thread of the 2018 edition – the fifteenth – of REMIX, the international contest for young, fashion & fur design talents organised by the International Fur Federation (IFF) with the support of Vogue Talents. At the end of Milan’s Fashion Week, Palazzo Barozzi hosted the prize-giving event and runway show featuring the international designers – selected from over 100 applications – who favoured recycled materials, eco-friendly dyes and fur that has been certified in its traceability. “Fur is one of the most sustainable, eco-compatible and natural materials around” IFF’s CEO Mark Oaten explained – “and with REMIX we are glad to give these talents the chance to explore also this field and add a tassel that will certainly prove significancy in their future career.”
For the REMIX winners, the finals definitely served as an important launch pad, in particular for Japanese designer Chunchen Liu, who received the Gold Award and will take part in a special one-week workshop at the Toronto branch of the NAFA (North American Fur Auctions); thanks to the Saga Award win, besides, Chunchen will be able to fly to the Saga Fur Design Centre and participate in fur-themed workshops and have access to an archive with over 3,000 handcrafted techniques. The Silver Prize went to Chinese designer Siyang Meng, who will be able attending a one-week course at the Kopenhagen Design Studio, while Hungarian designer Abigail Wirth got the Bronze prize.
The three winners also had the privilege of having their winning creations be part of a special shooting that is published in this month’s issue of Vogue Italia as well as online on Vogue.it.
