The International Fur Federation (IFF) fund a range of projects to kick-start or further enhance the careers of those working with fur. Our latest Fur Futures success stories comes from Ellen Henningsen Hellem who was sponsored by IFF to attend Kopenhagen Fur’s studio for a what she describes as an “inspirational visit.” This is Ellen’s experience…
After spending three wonderful days at Kopenhagen Fur in Denmark’s wonderful capital, we reflect on our experiences and are left full of inspiration and ideas.
Kopenhagen Fur kindly invited four lucky furriers from Norway to visit their premises to learn and share. There are very few furriers left in Norway and we all work in our own businesses which are spread across the whole of the country. This trip was an amazing opportunity to get better aquatinted and strengthen our network, enabling us to share our experiences and knowledge.
On the first day we were shown around the facilities of Kopenhagen Fur where all skins from the Danish Fur producers are sorted. It was very interesting to see and learn about the process.
We were also lucky enough to experience the auction house, where the skins were auctioned off to potential buyers.
We spent day two and three in Kopenhagen Studio where we first received a tour of the premises including where they design and mount fur. We learnt about techniques that were new to us and we were able to practice these techniques too which was incredibly inspiring.
Finally we spent time looking at and trying on some of the wonderful designs hanging on the rails.
Many thanks to Fur Europe and IFF for a wonderful and inspirational trip! Thank you also to the fabulous colleagues for brilliant days together.
Best wishes
