With summer finally about to settle in, the transition of changing your wardrobe from winter clothes to garments that compliment can be a tricky period. Fashion mainly focuses on traditional ‘light’ fabrics such as cotton linen and silk. While you might expect to see fur predominately in autumn/winter collections, spring/summer catwalks have shown an increasing number of fur designs that can be worn in milder temperatures.
Designers who have shown warm-weather, friendly fur trends include the likes of Christian Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Maison Margiela and Yiqing Yin, with many more in favour of including the material in future spring/summer events.
An ever-growing body of innovative techniques developed by both established and new designers as well as auction house studios means fur is becoming increasingly versatile.
Warm weather designs feature specialist techniques (e.g. Jigsaw, Windows, Net Technique) as well as cutting/stretching techniques such as ‘Airgallon’ that make for a lighter fabric.
Fur strips can also be knitted and crocheted together for garments that are both wearable and affordable. Floating, feminine styles are created when different types of fur are combined with silk organza, silk duchesse or lace using applique’-type technique (e.g. Feathers, Leaf, Furry Lace and Avantgarde), made into gossamer-light dresses and skirts.
It doesn’t have to stop there. Fur accessories are a huge trend in this moment of time and the finer details can in fact be the most effective. For example Anya Hindmarch’s mink fur bag charm and Fendi’s shearling and leather micro bag.
