Gucci Fur
Gucci certainly like to put on a show, even before the first model walked out there was already drama. Prior to the event on the day, phones were buzzing endlessly with e-mails confirming that the show will be running at least an hour late. We presume that this was due to an important power luncheon that consisted of Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Milanese Mayor Giuliano Pisapia running over. The irony of the meeting was supposedly done to kick off Milan fashion week.
The delay certainly did not go down well with show goers as leaked photos of the collection backstage were being leaked onto Twitter. However, after all that debacle finished the lights flickered and the show finally got on the road and it is fair to say, the wait was well worth it.
Designer Alessandro Michele’s Dionysus bag is on the arm of celebrities and street style stars alike. The vibrant and iconic look was a success and the only way to improve on this was to produce more. There were more jumpers covered in quirky graphics, amped up with padded sleeves, ruffles and fur. There were more blouses and dresses, but were splashed with a psychedelic ’60’s inspired pattern theme.
Designer Alessandro Michele has collaborated with street artist GucciGhost, who has painted the brand’s logo casually onto the backs of leather jackets and featured his handwriting dripping down a leather shopper. The prints looked great and added more flavour to what is surely one of the most vibrant catwalk debuts this season.
One of the key looks in the collection included a one shouldered gown that embodies Michele’s ability to infuse a variety of trends into one design. Fur lining also plays up a floral, once shouldered bodice that gets a modern touch with a rainbow skirt. There was even time for an appearance for a pair of fur lined slippers.
The line speaks just as strongly to a young customer with its loud colours and sports varsity socks as it does to the celebrities who are gearing up for this Sunday’s Oscars. All we can say is that Gucci was the fashion label that is currently ‘trending’ and after Milan, it is clear to see it will take some beating for that to change.
