“At the heart of all great art is an essential melancholy.”
-Federico Garcia Lorca
Passionate by nature and passionate by choice, Spain is a country that has gifted the world with invaluable endowments like the candorous words of Garcia Lorca, the playful art of Picasso and the tantalizing insanity of Dali. It is a country that has channeled its past and history through an inexhaustible creative force. All the originators of this force have reflected through art, design and fashion a personal vision of the world that it is still charged with national identity. They carry also a bit of melancholy, with all the charm this entails. They have used it also as a source of inspiration, as a tool given by their past to reinvent themselves over and over again.
The fur industry is no exception. Since the 14th century, Spain has been a loyal fur lover. As time moved on, so did crafters and dyers in order to create innovative procedures and practices to satisfy the demand and the quality of their products. Fashion worked on parallel, reflecting the times and desires of this country. The Spanish fur industry is reinventing itself after years of crisis suffered in Europe. Currently, the guild has found a new identity through the promotion of creativity, talented designers, fashion and savoir-faire. They have made use of quality, innovation and traditions elemental descriptors of this renaissance. They want to follow the trends and innovate with young, fun, colorful garments adapted to today’s lifestyle. Great fashion designers and, descendants of a land full of fur history and tradition, they are back on the runway and offering new collections that define a new era characterized by identity. Smoda Magazine hit the stands on 23 September 2011 with a surprisingly unique premier cover that featured Sara Jessica Parker sporting a Spanish-inspired chaquetilla torera. This November, they celebrate their fifth birthday in conjunction with the most promising and famous fashion designers in Spain. The Spanish Fur Association is proud to announce its collaboration and presence in such an exciting event. Even though the SFA (Spanish Fur Association) is a young organization, it is full of exciting plans to promote and support the fur industry in the Spanish scene. This is just the beginning of a story that is full of enthusiasm and a positive approach to the fur industry in Spain. They stand for and believe in a simple sentence:
“We love fashion and we love fur, we are fashion fur lovers”.
Fur Europe, the European fur association, is excited about this milestone event in the history of the Spanish fur industry, and is ready to provide its full support to this young and dynamic organization.
SModa and the SFA will bring one of the most awaited events in the high fashion, Spanish panorama. And it is just around the corner…
